Sport and Exercise Psychology services

one to one consultations

Serena provides individual support to athletes through one on one consultations both remotely and in person. In person sessions are located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. One to one consultations can cover a variety of topics based on the athlete’s needs including:

  • Managing pre-performance nerves e.g. thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations

  • Mental blocks/the “yips”

  • Strategies for managing negative/unhelpful thoughts

  • Coping with injury/illness

  • Returning to sport/exercise after injury and fear of re-injury

    The first consultation focuses on building a relationship with the athlete including asking questions pertaining their sport background, future goals and aspirations, aspects of their performance that they excel at, and aspects that they could improve on. After the first consultation, Serena creates an individualised plan including implementing techniques to help the athlete improve their performance and well-being. Serena uses various therapeutic techniques including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Each consultations lasts an average of 50 minutes and will be scheduled based on the athlete’s needs and requirements.

 

Teams

Serena has experience working with a range of different sport teams. Team services are specific to the team based on their needs and can include group workshops and one to one consultations with players and staff (coaches, physiotherapists, personal trainers, nutritionists). Serena provides team support at training as well as competitions.

 

Workshops

Educational workshops are a perfect opportunity for athletes, parents, coaches and other sport organisation staff to learn about the key aspects of sport psychology. Each workshop is interactive and modified based on the audience’s specifications. Educational workshops can cover a variety of topics including:
